If it's still of interest I did find a mod over at
NexusMods that increases your movement speed by 33%.
It also works on your existing single player campaign so no need to restart.
Installation is as easy as moving a file to your DOS directory.
Highly recommended as it doesn't effect frame rates or cause any graphical glitches and the run speed is now perfect imho.
