I'm trying to get as much info as I can before I start playing. I think, that ultimately, this is my downfall. I own the game for the last 2 days and I have hardly played, mostly experimenting in the starter area, still trying to decide on what build to go for :P
Anyways, on to the topic at hand. I generally tend to favor one character in RPGs, the rest being "slaves" to him. I also like spellsword (hint: TES: Oblivion, ie Heavy Armor, 2h, spells) builds in general. After reading countless threads on the hybrid tax this game has, I think I have narrowed it down to having: 1 Main "knight" character with lone wolf 1 CC/Summon/DPS bot 1 other.

There's a limited amount of melee builds available online, unfortunately, people seem to prefer mages (Not that I blame them, so many skills to choose from compared to 1 for pure "warriors" or "rangers").

Anyway, a build that seemed to match my desire was the infamous Flame Knight build that people used to roll some time ago. But unfortunately, it feels like it's been nerfed to oblivion.

Everywhere I go I read "hybrids suck" pretty much, and from a quick glance at how scaling works, I can't help but agree.

Any direction on where to head, what too look for, tips, even fully fleshed builds are welcome.

The games isn't that hard. There is really no need to focus optimize your build that much. If you do the end game will just be far to easy for you.

Select the skills that represent the character you want and play it accordingly. In most case you will have a build that can complete the game.

You *can* mix magic and melee. Personally I think I would go for one with Water elemental focus combined with melee weapons.

Yeah, I might be over complicating things for myself, but looking at the way people min max and so on, I was thinking I was walking into another "path of exile" and re-rolling constantly in a single player game is just not my thing.

Still, I got sucked into making some mods for Divinity, so I still got some time to think about my builds before I actually start playing.

EDIT: Hmm, is the quote function broken?
