I had the same profile selection bug, even with the new patch.
I have a macbookpro with a geforce 9600.
I tried everything that can be found on internet: manual disable shadow's and stuff, reinstall, window mode, manually add a profile, etc. Nothing worked.
Since the Geforce 9600 doesn't work, and the Macbook have 2 cards, I tought I should try to start it with my integrated card.
Problem is: with Maverick, you can't choose manually which card is working on what.
That small software allowed me to choose my card: https://gfx.io/.
Installed it, switched to my integrated card: tatam! problem solved, it work.
Might not be perfect, but it's a work-around that will allow you to play until it's fixed.
