Did you try replacing the My Documents folder, either with the download above, or copied from your desktop?

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game? Firewalls have also caused conflicts on startup.

Try renaming the Splash_Logo_Larian.bik file, in the '..\Divinity - Original Sin\Data\Localization\English\Video' install folder.

If that doesn't help, please email supportdos@larian.com, with a description of the problem (or link to this topic) and the report.zip file generated by the D:OS support tool (for the PC version). The report will contain system and game information, and would contain your saved games if you had any. If the game was working before it started crashing, the report file size can be decreased by deleting all the saves from the zip (if the saves were part of the problem, replacing/recreating the My Documents D:OS folder from the suggestions above would presumably have helped).

You can also check the '..\Divinity - Original Sin\Shipping' folder for any CrashDump files, and either add some to the report.zip, or zip them separately.

EDIT: Enhanced Edition

There is an updated version of the Analysis Tool for the Enhanced Edition of D:OS.
Extract the zip file somewhere and run the AnalysisTool.exe. When that loads, browse to the install folder (if it is not automatically detected), optionally run the tests first, and then generate a report (it will be saved in the same location as the Analysis Tool).
