Hello to all,
I am new to the game and the forum!
Some comments to the game (so far):
1) Awesome done!! I really mean it! I did play Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights, these old games were just fine (NWN 1 was a bit ugly, but nice to play). But this game is a modern version of games like NWN and Baldurs Gate, a worthy successor.
2) I especially like the humor in the game, and the things some characters say. ('Better dead drunk than dead' - drunken Soldiers at the bridge, and so on...)
3) The system with the elements is a fine and working idea, and is great to understand and play.
4) The storyline unfolds just fine (Level 9, just before the fight against Braccus Rex), but a bit more world background would be even nicer.
5) The items in game (including crafting) are fine - but there I do have a small problem, which seems to be connected to the complete random item generation: Vendors in the game have items fitting to your current level, which is fine by me. But sometimes items are simply missing. I started several games (restarted because of errors in character generation, overlooked quests, and so on) and in every game several items were missing: Just now I cannot find '9 Inch Nails'. For some reason they ar not in the game. The first 'Nails'-Item is an item, that is placed in the game (lays on a table at the morticians house), but I tend to open every container in the game (chests, boxes, and so on) and find nearly everything - but no nails. In my first attempt I found at least 10 Nail-Items in the first 2 hours. It could be the newest patch - i started with the patch before it, 177 I think, and now have the last GOG patch (219, I think). It is similar with other crafting components.
6) Another small nitpick: While vendors have 'leveled' items - which is fine by me - they should also level their skill books. As a level 4 character you find skill books up to level 12, and no skill books of smaller levels, and often they have 3 to 4 equal items. What I mean: If a vendor has around 16 skill books (of one school), would it not be better to give him 16 _different_ skills books, and not 3 to 4 equal skill books of a level far beyond everything we can use?
But besides small nitpicks it is a game very well done - congrats to Larian Studios!!
I just hope, we will see more games with this engine!
M.
