Last night I tried for almost two hours to be able to play. After wrestling with the dang disc not wanting to read for quite some time, I finally got lucky. I then loaded an old save, before I got anywhere near the council chambers. Before I even entered the castle to rescue Zandalor. I then replayed that whole portion of the game from the old save, but sure enough, same thing...the game locked up my computer as I approached the stairs going down after the teleport place.
If my disc would read, I'd keep trying to trouble shoot the game, but spending 25 minutes (easily) pulling the disc in and out of the drive trying to get lucky, only to have my game freeze, is just entirely too frustrating. I deleted all the files in folder that was mentioned (the dynamic stuff), i went back to a fairly old save...I can't think of anything else to try. I admit I am playing on a fairly old machine (AMD 750 with a Voodoo 3500) and I considered what was written in the technical FAQ...but that says RANDOM lock ups...and these are decidedly NOT random. It never locks in anyplace but the Council chamber, and almost always by a border of some sort. I think it's time to load up NWN or Fallout.
I'd like to thank everyone for their help. You guys are great and have a super community here.
Thanks again and maybe I'll try again after I've cooled down some...or purchased a new computer.

Hi Branwyn, Sorry to hear this... Unfortunately I can't help you. Never heard of this problem. Maybe you might wanna try contacting the CDV support? support@divinedivinity.com ? Tell them about your PC configuration and describe the exact problem you are experiencing. Hope they can help you! Best, Lynn

I had the same problem in the council chamber - I switched to software mode and 600x800 resolution, it was BIG and very FAST , but I could finish the chamber without any more problems, then I just reset the settings to normal Direct 3D.
Hope you can use it, bye!

No-CD hacks can cause problems, and will not work for the blessing ceremony towards the end of the game (a video played then is on the CD). A virtual CD-ROM program would be a better option to bypass the DVD drive.

Yes, you might wanna try switching to software mode until you have passed the areas where you have crashes. But I think you tried that already, if I read your other thread. Not sure though...

Well, after getting so ticked off at DD, I finally decided to install Planescape: Torment. It's been sitting on my desk since it came out. Well, it installed just fine, and it started out playing just fine, but when I went to the second level, the game started to autosave...and my CD-ROM began click click clicking. Then the game said it was loading the new area, and viola, CRASH TO DESKTOP!!!
Now, what does this have to do with Divine Divinity, you may wonder. Not a whole lot, except that it caused me to go out today and by myself a CD-RW drive. So now I ought to be able to read my divine divinity discs with my new drive. (And if my stupid save game won't work, I can save it to a CD (at 30 meg, there was no way to move it before...) and load it on my P4 system and see if it works there.
Thanks to everyone here for their help. You guys are super. Wish me luck, I'll try playing again this coming weekend.
