I have to concur with Thanos. I have the same symptoms on my Mac: upon reaching the main menu, the 'Load' option is greyed out. Thus it's impossible to load any saved games.
If I try to create a new profile, I can proceed up to the beginning of the game, make a quicksave, but it's just impossible to load it, even if the in-game menu allows it: loading just does not work and I'm stuck on the screen giving me playing tips.
