Here goes the answer:
After you restore Maria's reputation, she will go to Merchant's Guild in Verdistis. Go talk to Trevor (Guildmaster) and he will tell that you will need a recommendation from someone who was born in Verdistis. Now go talk to Maria and she will gladly give you one. Talk to Trevor again and he will give you two options:
1. You can buy a house by paying 30.000 gold.
2. You can rent a house for 1.000 gold/month.
You will gain XP if you buy the house. Don't know if you rent it.
