In the conflict between the elves and dwarves you can help both sides. However, in the magic garden you have to choose which side you want to be on. You can either help the bees defend their home and kill the wasps, or help the wasps invade and kill the bees. There are a couple quests like this, where two sides will ask for your help, and you must choose which one to aide. There are also a couple quests designed to fail (like meeting Zandalor at the Dwarven Bread inn).
