When DD2 comes out (one can only hope)maybe the addition of a zoom function in the normal game as well as the maps, both NWN and Dungeon Seige pulled this off well (I dont know how complicated it is to do as far as programming is comcernrd )there are occasions during the game that I have come across where I think this would come in handy (exploration of the Dark Forest for instance)-Just a thought

sounds like a good idea to me maybe use the current view as default close up and then be able to zoom out once or maybe twice

All you need to do is remove every second pixel.

It is that easy. If you want to see twice as much in each direction, you remove half the information in each direction. It looks a bit dodgy, but it is effective. If you want to get pedantic, you can average the colours in each 2x2 pixel square to smooth out the colours.

I could live with that as long as it wasnt detramental to overall performance. It was only a thought

Well maybe not zoom in like DS, but maybe just moving the camera around. Like it is in Grandia 2.

i'd like to be able to move the camera some where click and then my char move to that place especially on the larger maps when you realise you at the end and still have like half the dungeon to uncover. Have to say i dont like the map scroll in DD its very hard to know where you are.

You can - kind of. Press CAPS-LOCK, scroll to the destination, and click there. Press CAPS-LOCK again if you want to centre on your character again.
It's not the best method, but it works.

you can scroll around your map with keeping the shift key pressed or by using the caps-lock key, then just move the mouse to the edge of the screen, click where you want your char to go.....

How about being able to click on the large map (not the automap) and have your character be able to go there? Obviously this might cause problems with unexplored areas, but I guess you could just run the risk of running past lots of baddies to get to your ultimate destination (like the flagged in red Dwarven Inn).

Maybe left click + drag would move the map around, and right-click would take you to the destination. That would be very nice indeed.

I reckon that if you click on the map, the map closes and your character starts taking the shortest path it knows there. The game would not let you click on unexplored areas because your character does not know how to get there yet.
This way, you couldn't just click on the camp at the start of the game and have your character, without knowing anything about the land, walk south, cross the bridge, navigate the farmlands, pass through the hills and the poor-sector of town, go around the camp, and enter the General Alix's hut. Once you'd made your own way there once, you could return by that fashion, but only because you know which way to go now.
