Was a very nice surprise to check back and see that the patch was ready for download! So how is it working for saved game issues?

Hi Sheba,

Story fixes: A lot of the following fixes are only valid if you start a new game. However, if you don’t start a new game, installing the patch has no adverse effect.

Loading of items is now more robust. This was the major reason for corrupted savegames.

But the patch won't solve your corrupt savegame...
You should start playing with a previous savegame.

Hope this helps you.

i installed the patch and started a new game. i went to load it up the other day and it wouldnt. so i dont think it helps much as far as corrupted saved games go. as good as this game is it sure has way to many tech proplems. i relize its new and has bugs but when have to keep starting over it sure pisses me off. the Catacombs arent even fun anymore.

do you need this patch if you don't have the problem just so it won't happen????

It would be best to install the patch before starting a game, but you can do so afterwards to get the technical and most of the story fixes / changes. Some bugs can be fixed by installing the patch after you encounter them, others can not (though most have another workaround or fix).

There are no game breaking bugs you will be guaranteed to run into without the patch, so you do not need to install it. The patch does add a second quicksave (you can increase that number) and other bug fixes and enhancements, so I would recommend installing it.

For example, in an unpatched game Finnigan's magic lockpicks will break if you use the Lockpick skill with them in your inventory, and will disappear if dropped on the ground. These lockpicks should be unbreakable, and give you a +20 agility boost while in your inventory. If you install the patch after they break, they will be placed back in Commander Kratus' desk, to be re-stolen. If you install it after the game is started, they will no longer break (so you don't have to carry around a stack of normal lockpicks), but will still disappear when dropped on the ground. In either case, you have to choose between returning the magic lockpicks to complete the quest, or keeping them to use yourself. If you install the patch before starting the game, the lockpicks will not break and can be safely dropped on the ground. You can also complete the quest, and then buy them back from Finnigan.

If you decide not to patch the game, you might want to check out
