Well its been a long Day the patch screwed up my whole game. Like some others everything went back to black only flags left. I have to clear out the black area for 3 months of playing noway. I tryed everything to recover from this patch. I uninstalled the game and was carefull to get my saved games only about 20 of them in a safe place. Then after uninstalling went and got rid of all of the leftover files on hard drive of divine, then reinstalled with out the patch. Then played short time did a save then imported my saved games into the fresh install and it crashes on all the saves because the only saves that I had were the saves that had come after the patch so they are all infected with this what ever it is that the patch has. Yes I have been playing for 3 months and why do I have so little saved games because I delete them because if you have too many of them they make the game load slow. And the night of the patch I cleaned em all up and have not one clean saved game from before the patch. I have done this over and over all day I am so disapointed I can't begin to say how much with out swearing. I love this game I was really almost going to be at the end and because if I have to put the patch back in and then play the whole thing trying to get out of the dark again I will not do it. I will not start over either. I spent hours just walking my person around in the dark so I could freeking see in the first place. In the second place why is the damn dark there anyhow get rid of it. Help US DO Something Do it fast Help US.. Who let this patch out anyhow with out testing it?

like I said before, CDV is incapable You know that CDV is only the publisher? Any rants in behalf of problems with the new patch might better go to Larian ...

I've had the same problem.
Level 37, 5 council members found, Aleroth and Dark Forest explored, joined Thief Guild and Warrior Guild, acquired a nice Holy Sword.
Installed patch ... game over.
I was in Verdistis, went to give Hugh the grain order and the map was black with flags on it. Checked the sewer and that was black. Checked the Forest and ... well, I'm sure you get the idea. Verdistis map was OK. The teleporters were still active. Monsters were dead. Chests, doors etc reset - including the game killer which was the council chamber doors being locked.
Oh well, maybe I'll start again in a couple of months ...

@Kajetan: It's CDV that has tested the patch the last few weeks you know, they give the gold-status for the patch, so as far as I am concerned they didn't test it enough

Sorry But, last thursday I came to this site to look at hints AND the Patch was the first thing I saw, AT the top of the page the rest is history. Then I went to the Techinical to post to let the persons know at the divine divinity site. Thought there was a need to know of a patch for a patch. I got carried away. Sorry. But really do not understand what CDV is incapable means. Anybody wanta explain?

@Viper: they give the gold-status for the patch Did they? The patch is only available at Larian's site. The official Divine Divinity-Site from CDV features only the old patch. I think that Larian doesn't want to wait anymore and they release the patch WITHOUT the approval from CDV.

[color:"red"] @ the people with the black map problem: [/color] could you please send me your savegame? Then we can look into the problem. Now, it's difficult, since not everybody has this problem. You can email your savegame, or the link where I can download the savegame to support@larian.com We'll try to help you asap. Thx, Lynn **** @Kajetan: It's CDV that has tested the patch the last few weeks you know, they give the gold-status for the patch, so as far as I am concerned they didn't test it enough This is wrong information... I would like to stress that the release of this patch wouldn’t have been possible without the much appreciated help of the following forum members: Achim_S, Barnabus, Hellfighter, Kiya, Nemisis Dragon, Raze and Sir_Toejam. If they didn’t help us, there simply was no patch. Nobody is to blame for the error about the Black Map problem. And if somebody is to blame, then blame us. It’s just an “error” in testing, because we tested the patch without the previous hotfix. And there is the problem. Furthermore I want to add that we never stated the thing you said about CDV, Viper. But I don’t want to add anything here, just that I’m happy that we have the patch. So people with the black map problem, send us your savegame, then we are able to help you out asap. Thx, Lynn

I just want to add that imho CDV is still testing the patch, which will last several weeks or even months. ( )

I have just tested the black map problem with my old savegames and the latest patch applied and I didn't run into the problem.
We urgently need some savegames to be able to solve this problem.

Question ? If the patch has been tested for all these months now by the Larians and their forum helpers ... then how come you guys constantly said Larian wasn't up to date to where CDV was in the progress of releasing the patch ?!!!! Was this deliberate desinformation ? And why the constant demonising of the publisher ? I mean without these guys there probably would never have been a divine divinity in the first place !!

The patch had been sent to CDV many months ago, no release - then one of the German gamers mailed CDV, here is the answer, from the 12th March 2003: concentrate on Marlene's post, pleaseAs you see, nothing came after that. 3 weeks ago some forum helpers were asked if they could help. Kiya If you wish, I can look up the old topics where Lar said, that the patch was at CDV. If you can't read Marlene's post (German), I can show you the translation Sir_Toejam gave. Sir_Toejam:
Heyo. I pulled this out of the german section of the forum and translated as best I could (with help). This is the only direct response from CDV about the patch that I have seen. This was originally posted last week.
Marlene's info from CDV >>>also, es gibt bei cdv anscheinend noch jemand, der mails liest und auch beantwortet.<<<
So, there is still someone who reads and replies to emails at CDV.
>>hier die mail die ich soeben ergalten habe:<<
Here is the mail I just received:
>>Sehr geehrte Frau xxx,<<
Dear mrs. xxx,
>>>ich kann Ihren Ärger über die lange Wartezeit auf den angekündigten Patch durchaus verstehen, würde mir wahrscheinlich ähnlich gehen.<<<
I can thoroughly understand your frustration at the long wait on the announced patch, I probably would feel the same way.
>>>Warum Ihnen, und allen anderen Fans von „Divine Divinity“, der Patch immer noch nicht zur Verfügung steht, hat aber folgende Gründe:<<<
Why you, and all of the other "Divine Divinity" fans are still awaiting the patch are for the following reasons:
Everyone said that the patch has not yet ironed out all reported mistakes (bugs?), and should introduce NO new mistakes if possible, and to remove the mistakes, both technical and substantive (gameplay) in nature, Divine Divinity must be played all the way through with all of the possible variations of quests, classes, and stats, skills etc., to become thoroughly tested and verified. And the complex and non-linear game structure means that "Divine Divinity" cannot be tested in a few hours.
>>>Ich kann Ihnen hiermit versichern, der Patch ist in Arbeit und wird Ihnen in wenigen Wochen zur Verfügung stehen. Ich möchte mich für Ihre Geduld und Ihr Entgegenkommen bedanken und würde mich freuen, wenn Sie und andere Fans weiterhin mit Engagement und Einsatz uns auf die Sorgen und Nöte der „Divine Divinity“-Community aufmerksam machen.<<<
I can tell you this, the patch is still being worked on, and we will announce it's release to you in a few weeks. I would like to thank you for your patience and your kindness, and would be happy if you would bring to our attention any other worries and needs of the "Divine Divinity" community.
>>>Mit freundlichem Gruß Ihr CDV Team <<<
Sincerely, your CDV team

In short: CDV would've tested much, much longer, but Larian actually heard the complaints by gamers, and decided to speede up the whole process by asking known Forummembers to help out.
There are two timelines: One for CDV (which hasn't ended yet), and one for Larian itself.
Somewhere during the testing process at CDV, Larian decided to fork both timelines and invent a new one.
That new one is ready now, whereas the CDV-line still runs.

Topic: anyone heard from CDV? From the old forum[/b] Sir_Toejam, 6th March 2003: It was over a month ago that Larian sent CDV the next patch for testing. Has anyone heard via email or otherwise from CDV on the status of their round of testing? Seems a bit overlong for a publisher to be testing a developers patch. I checked CDV's messageboard, but could find no topics referring to the patch. Note I said CDV and NOT Larian! There are dozens of posts about when Larian finished their part of the patch. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Raze, from the 7th March 2003: CDV is the publisher for DD; website http://www.cdv.de As of yesterday, they were not being very specific about release times. From an email about a bug someone else ran into; quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- we plan to release a third patch for Divine Divinity. But unfortunately I couldn't say when at the moment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alrik Fassbauer, from 7th March 2003: A week or so ago I e-mailed CDV, but they only said that the patch is in testing. No date, no precise information. Sorry. Rattenfanger, there are various threads in the old forum dealing with patch delay - so an irritation about CDV is understandable (to put it into mild words ) Kiya

I spoke too fast when I said that the patch wasn't tested with the hotfixes because I checked this and it was tested. This and the fact that most people aren't experiencing problems means that it probably only happens under some circumstances.
We are now trying to look what those circumstances are and will release a fix the moment we find out how this can happen.
