In this corner was a water barrel next to the wood barrel.
I opened the wood barrel and then I threw it to the position where it is now. When I threw the wood barrel, the water barrel fell into the ground and disappeared.

This is the case in multiple locations, e.g. the two water (or poison?) barrels when you fight Pontius and at some other locations, too.
