Wrong. I've played through the original on every level of difficulty, and you would get at least one gold/orange/exceptional item in each of the situations I mentioned. Now, I got cloth scraps and iron bars. The best thing I got out of Baron Dietrick and his entire retinue, was a crappy blue-rated crossbow. The two "King's Chests" contained non-magical tripe.


This is just not accurate, and you can see it for yourself if you fire up the editor in the original game. Doing that, you can see exactly the types of loot that will come from these encounters, and while there is a *chance* of receiving something good (which may or may not be useless to your party), it is rarely 100% guaranteed. That is why save-scumming was so popular.

Back to the Enhanced Edition, I know chest loot is determined upon entering a map now (rather than at the moment of looting the chest). Are boss drops as well? Or are they still determined at the moment of kill?
