This is really annoying me, because first time through this wasn't a problem but....
I've been all through Iona's dungeon so far as I can tell from my map (trawling slowly back to Rivertown to sell my booty several times). However, I haven't yet encountered Iona's Pet. Where do I find this critter? I seem to recall that killing it basically let you get into somewhere where Iona stashes the good stuff.

Here you see the entry to the 2nd lvl in the eastern part - opens by reciting the correct incantation in the book - then the stairs open and lead to lvl 2.

See the screenshot in the southeast saying to lvl 4? That's Cyrion's lair.

Thank you Kiya.
Thought if I hung around for 5 minutes or so then you, Raze or Dragon would give me the answer <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Going to go try deal with the pet now.

I am so glad I called back. I didn't know that the skull was the key, and was intending to pop back once I'd acquired a couple of more levels in Pick Locks from the thieves guild.
And yeah, I had a real fun fight with it, wasting quite a few potions. That I've been through, only Josephine's worse, though I lost my old game just after getting to the Wastelands, so not sure what you meet up with there

aah thanks for that one...i was really annoyed when i got there and found only a locked chest without a key..had no clue the skull was the key.guess i'll have to go backtracking now smirk. That dungeon was way too large and i got really irritated as it just went on and on and on (and you never actually find anything interesting except for the house of madness which is not really in the lower levels anyway), i would've prefered more Cyrion type monsters and a smaller dungeon and imagine the pain once you dont' get anything from it!

Either weak little me only good with a bow had to sneak in and sit in the corner while releasing a heap of scorpions on Cyrion. Not what i wanted to do, but by that time i just wanted to get the heck out of the dungeion already and was in no mood of reloading alot :P

Actually, what bugs me most about that dungeon is the number of times I leave it. I tend to go through, slaughtering everything I meet without too much trouble (except for the pet), and picking up loot as I go. As this is straight aftr the castle I've not got teleporter stones so I have to wander back to the surface to sell all my loot, then run back to where I was. Takes about six trips before you've looted the entire place.

I typically just get out of the dungeon when I'm thrown there by Iona. I save the rest of it for after I've recovered my teleporter stones. I'm usually in the 20's right after the castle, and liches are still pretty tough at that point. The pet would chew me to pieces. I like to come back once I get to level 30 or so.

I've basically completed everything on the Rivertown screen before I go into the castle, so I'm in the mid 20's before I get to the dungeon. And with a good sword and decent resistances, liches aren't much more than a vague inconvenience.
