Another update here to rule things out.

We tried digital and disk copies. No changes.
Other friends who also have day-one Xbox ones can connect to use without problem.

While it is 99.9% likely it is an Xbox to Xbox issue (as explained in my previous two posts), it is not tied to day-one xboxes, nor is it tied to the Operating Systems or media format.

This leaves only one possibility, something that is otherwise unheard of and exceptionally strange.
There is something, as to yet be identified, about certain Xbox systems not being able to connect to certain other Xbox systems with this title, and only this title.

There's a ghost in the machine, Will Smith style. We have no choice but to wait for the devs to find out what on bloody Earth it is, and patch their software to account for it.

TIPS GUYS!!!

So I have been having the same problem but found one solution so far that let my friend and I work playing co-op

I created a single player game, made my characters and then once in my single player game, there was still a connection option to invite someone, when i changed it to INVITE ONLY and sent invite, it worked!

Hope it does for someone else too!

Good luck!

I'm glad it worked for you, but I tried and it didn't work.

No here, was one of the things I tried initially. Although it does seem strange for there to be a network option at all in a single player game.

Tried the single player thing, did not work... This is getting tedious.

It'd be nice if Larian would actually comment with an update...The more this goes on the more the idea of taking this game back and getting the $60 (word of advice, if you're gonna jump into the full retail price game world, make sure the game works) back and putting that towards fallout 4 on Tuesday sounds appealing.

I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING AND I MAY HAVE A SOLUTION!!

I've been playing online with my wife since day one (I have two xbox one in my home and I dont like split screen). I also played online coop with a friend of mine (each one in our own home)

I only have this problem you mentioned when I turn off my Xbox with the game open (you know... to use fast resume later). Then, when I turn it on again I always have "connection failed" when trying to play coop.

Solution: both of you press the XBOX BUTTON, then on the tile the game is running press the MENU button on xbox controller and select QUIT. Now both of you reopen the game and let it boot completely. Press A to connect to the servers when asked. Now try playing online coop.

If that doesnt work, both of you restart the console by pressing and holding the power button for about 8 seconds and try again.

Xbox is like Windows and most of the things will work if you reopen it or restart the console smile

Works everytime for me.

Me and my brother are suffering from the same problem. We've gone through everything posted so far and haven't been able to connect to each other's game once. We can join sone games but not others and have never been able to join with each other.

I have never been asked to connect to any server in this nor have I ever received a confirmation of having been connected to one. So this "solution" seems a bit strange to me. In any case it didn't work either.

When you are at the menu screen it shows PRESS A. When you do it connects to the server and sync. And only then you can load the game.

Anyway, it always works for me

To try and connect with my brother I have:

-Changed all setting in the connection type in game and tried inviting and just him joining (both in and out of Xbox party)
-Done the same but me connecting to him.
-deleted and reinstalled the game and my profile.
-unfriended each other.
-installed game on external storage and internal internal.
-tried the pressing the Xbox button and then menu and quit method.
-checked nat settings on both consoles.

We dont have any problems playing other games apart from this one.
-we can both connect to other people's games of divinity (not all some return the same error)
-both are digital downloads from Xbox live
-one console is a day one edition the other is an advanced repaired because original was faulty.
-both live in uk and have same isp

If any one from Latina needs any more info let me know. Hope a fix comes soon because we both bought the game but only using one copy in split screen. 」90 is expensive for one game

Probably going to get a refund and get this on the PS4. I can confirm that the PS4 multiplayer works and its a shame that this does not work on Xbone. What is funny is that I have seen previous videos of Larian showcasing the multiplayer but it was ALWAYS on PS4. Should have been a red flag right there. Now, I will say that Larian should be praised for a fantastic game, but next time make sure the online works on ALL consoles before you tout it so much.

The game was tested by Larian and Focus, and went though separate Xbox One certification procedures for North America and Europe, and this problem was not encountered until after release (and even then, specifically trying to reproduce it was difficult).

I don't have an ETA (I'm not directly involved), but there are things being done to address this problem.

I'm not really upset anymore, just confused. Its whatever now. I'll just get it on the PS4. Still a good enough game to warrant that and I have friends that own a PS4 anyways as well. Just hope it gets fixed for everyone else.
