Hey guys, ive already contacted Larian tech support with this but i wanna try my luck here if some got any tips.

I've installed DOS:EE on my PC, but ive noticed that my game doesnt have sounds. Only intro and the first video at the start got sound. Thats it, rest is just silent.

Do you have any tips that could causing that.
Things we have checked with Larian Raze : change sound quality and restart game, checked the windows volume mixer, reinstalled audio drivers.

If you have any tip what to try, let me know here.
Thank you

Have you tried reinstalling the game? Sometimes a bad download will cause files to be missed but still show as a complete download.

If you ALT-Tab out of the game and start something like Winamp. Can you hear the songs?

Is there debug logging in the game?

Tried to check the file cache?

In the data folder what are the sizes of the "sound.pak", "sound_1.pak" and "soundbanks.pak" files?

The sounds are working fine im listening to Sporify while im playing.
No the game is lauching like it should, nothing weird.
Yeah the file cache integrity is 100%
Sound.pak is 1GB and sound_1.pak is 458 MB. And ive already tried to delete them from folder and let steam redownload them.

right click on the speaker icon in your systray, select "playback devices"--what do you see?

Right-click the digital output and disable it because you don't need it.

Make sure the "speakers" icon has a green checkmark. That tells you it's the default audio device.

Select the speakers icon, and at the bottom left of the tab select "configure" and set for stereo.

Select the "speakers" icon, again, and at the bottom right of the tab select "properties"--check the "levels" tab to make sure they correspond with your desired volume settings, then select the "enhancements" tab and make sure "immediate mode" is checked.

IF still no go, then open the device manager, open "sound and video controller devices" and right-click and select "disable" (do not uninstall) for all entries other than "RealTek High definition Audio."

Last, open "playback devices" again and move to the communications tab and select "do nothing" and apply.

If after these steps you still aren't getting sound in the game...well, you should be...;)

Tried everything what youve said, but still nothing.

At this point i dont even miss the sound, even though i know the feel of the game would be much better.
Im currently trying to kill the skeleton boss and after that only Braccus Rex is in my way.

Sorry, guy...;) You've definitely got something going on at your end, though, as I can't see this being a bug in the game--if it was then many people would be experiencing the same thing. Software configuration conflicts are among the toughest to track down--which is likely what the problem is. Unless, of course, there's a problem with your hardware...but doesn't sound likely based on what you've said. Good luck!

Sorry for reviving a months old thread, but this is exactly my problem.

I purchased the vanilla D:OS on GOG last year and played it without a hitch on this computer.

I recently decided to play it again but GOG Galaxy updated my original game to the Enhanced Edition and that's where the problem started. I get sound only on the Larian splash screen at game launch and at the first video cut-scene before disembarking. Character creator, main menu and in-game have no sounds.

I am also on a Realtek High definition card (built-in sound for ASUS Motherboard) and my graphics card has Nvidia Miracast Audio (which I'm not using) could the game be using that?

Sound works fine on any other program/game

The Classic version of D:OS should still be in your library, as well as the Enhanced Edition.

The game should be using the default sound device (especially if you tried the troubleshooting above).

In the audio options, do you get a sample sound played if you move the FX, Ambient and Voice sliders? The volume of the music should change, as well, when you change its slider, if you were getting music to start with.

Did you try changing the sound quality in the options? You could also try changing the Windows sound quality settings.

If you are using speakers, do you have headphones you can try, or vise versa?

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game?
One person using Razer Kraken headphones reported the sound cutting out after playing a couple minutes, due to having the Razer Synapse program running in the background.

Maybe try doing a clean boot and then test the game. Click Start, or hit WinKey-R, type in msconfig and hit enter; in the General tab, click Selective Startup, uncheck Load startup items (if required) and leave Load system services and Use original boot configuration options checked. Next, Click on the Services tab, check the box to Hide all Microsoft services, then click the Disable All button, then click OK and reboot the computer.
Run msconfig again to switch back to the normal boot configuration.

Hi Raze,

Thanks for taking the time to try to help me.

None of the proposed solutions worked, so I decided to repair the installation, but that didn't work either.

Then I remembered that GOG Galaxy actually upgraded my existing install of D:OS classic to D:OS EE, and since I've read here that the two are very different from each other, I decided to uninstall it completely and re-download / re-install, which solved the problem.

I'm not sure if this was the situation with Bezrayers, who started this thread, but since the symptoms were exactly the same as mine, I thought of leaving this "solution" to whomever might stumble upon this post with the same problem.

In short: For some reason GOG Galaxy has updated / upgraded my existing install of D:OS classic to D:OS EE. Both still showed up on my library, but only EE showed up as being installed. This upgrade probably created a defective game folder with files from both games, causing incompatibilities between the EE engine and the Classic files.
Uninstalling everything and starting from scratch with a fresh install set things right again.

Strange. I'm glad you got it working, anyway.
