Here is a link for a new Divinity Original Sin folder, if you want to try extracting it into your '..\Documents\Larian Studios' folder, and see if that makes a difference. The lack of configuration file is probably a result of the crash, though, rather than the other way around. The graphicSettings.lsx file is set to a 1280x800 resolution, and windowed mode (instructions for changing this in the spoiler). Thank u very much my friend. Your solution actually works and it healed my headache. Reinstalling game, reintstalling windows, many updates of software, memocheck for all night, google, google, google... Non russian community could help, but yours board did. Thank u very very much. Registered to say this. From russia with love

I had an identical problem, and Raze's solution worked for me as well.

I'm being unable to play this game on my new laptop but I can play it on my old desktop.
Laptop config:
i5-4210U 8GB RAM NVIDIAョ GeForceョ 820M 2GB DDR3L Windows 8.1 64bits
Desktop config:
i5-720 4G RAM ATI Radeon 5450 1GB DDR3 Windows 7 64bits
I've already done a clean uninstall/install, installed directx, directx sdk, all vcredist (2005, 2008, 2009, etc) but
nothing seems to work.
I've tried to run as admin, compatibility mode (win 7), changed desktop resolution, installed new graphic drivers,
When I try to execute the game, it goes to a black screen and then it goes back to desktop with the message "EoCApp.exe
has stopped working"
(GoG version)

Did you try replacing the My Documents folder, either with the download above, or copied from your desktop? Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game? Firewalls have also caused conflicts on startup. Try renaming the Splash_Logo_Larian.bik file, in the '..\Divinity - Original Sin\Data\Localization\English\Video' install folder. If that doesn't help, please email supportdos@larian.com, with a description of the problem (or link to this topic) and the report.zip file generated by the D:OS support tool (for the PC version). The report will contain system and game information, and would contain your saved games if you had any. If the game was working before it started crashing, the report file size can be decreased by deleting all the saves from the zip (if the saves were part of the problem, replacing/recreating the My Documents D:OS folder from the suggestions above would presumably have helped). You can also check the '..\Divinity - Original Sin\Shipping' folder for any CrashDump files, and either add some to the report.zip, or zip them separately. EDIT: Enhanced EditionThere is an updated version of the Analysis Tool for the Enhanced Edition of D:OS. Extract the zip file somewhere and run the AnalysisTool.exe. When that loads, browse to the install folder (if it is not automatically detected), optionally run the tests first, and then generate a report (it will be saved in the same location as the Analysis Tool).

Thanks for the reply, Raze. I tried to rename the splash_logo file but the game still crashes. And I shut down every non essential program, as antivirus and firewall.
I downloaded the game analysis tool and the result that I got is that my CPU failed and directx version is unknow (error getting directx info!).
My CPU is an Intel i5-4210U, shouldn't it work? And I don't know why I'm getting that directx error, other games work perfectly.
Anyway, I sent the report.zip to support mail.
Thanks.

The minimum CPU is a 2.4GHz dual core CPU. While being a little slower shouldn't be a problem, the i5-4210U is 1.7GHz... which may or may not be a problem.

In your My Documents folder, you can manually create a folder named 'Larien Studios' in order to try the replacement D:OS folder linked to above.

You've tried the rest of the suggestions above, as well? Please email supportdos@larian.com, with a description of the problem and the report.zip file generated by the D:OS Analysis Tool (for the PC version). The report will contain system and game information (and would contain saved games if you had any). You can also check the '..\Divinity - Original Sin\Shipping' folder for any CrashDump files, and either add some to the report.zip, or zip them separately. For Mac, to get system specs you can use the 'System Report' button from the 'About This Mac' Apple menu item or the 'System Information' app (in the utilities folder). Crash reports are collected in the "Console" application.

Howdy!
I can't seem to get the game working again... I played the game a lot when it came out with absolutely 0 problems but now almost a year since last played, I can't seem to get the game to start. It just crashes on startup :(
I did most, if not all, the fixes above but still wont work.
It's very strange though, as I can operate the game using the Alt-tab fix to navigate the menu without problems. However as soon as I click "Multiplayer" under new character, the game chokes.
Please help :(

Did you try loading an existing save? If you don't have any previous saves, you can download one and extract it into your '..\Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin\PlayerProfiles\<ProfileName>\Savegames' folder. You could try playing the game from a new OS user account. Did you try a clean re-install of the game? With Steam you can backup the game, delete local files, make sure everything is removed from the install folder, and then restore the backup. That may help without having to redownload the game again. Check the Event Viewer; the error code or faulting module listed for the crashes may help narrow down what the problem is, or (with a web search) give additional suggestions. - click Start (or WinKey-W in Win 8), then type "event viewer" (or just "ev") into the search box - after starting the Event Viewer, expand 'Windows Logs' in the left column and select 'Application' - in the center column, look for a recent error (maybe sort by Date and Time) for the game - look at the information under the 'General' tab below the list of events, starting with "Faulting application name..."

A question about Windows 10 : Should the upcoming EE version be compatible with Windows 10 without any problems (like I read above in this thread) ? I'm planning to download the EE version from Steam (on the moment it's coming out) on my upgraded laptop, upgraded to Windows 10, but I'm a little bit afraid to do the upgrade ... a neighbour of me said I must reinstall ALL programs after that upgrade ... that means also D:OS (EE) ! Thanks in beforehand for the information !
On 7th of february 2015 : I start a new adventure in the Divinity world of Original Sin, it's a Fantastic Freaking Fabulous Funny ... it's my All Time Favorite One !

Yes, the EE will be updated to account for whatever changes were made to the permissions in Windows 10.

Havent been able to get the game to work since I updated to windows 10. Ive tried everything in this thread and no luck. Ive sent an email to larian with my report.zip file to see if they have any solutions. These are my results from the test....As you can see it I fail the direct x version test. I have been unable to fix it so far. I would appreciate any input.

Have you been able to run any other DirectX 9 games? The problem with the Analysis Tool result may be an issue with a change in how Win 10 reports the DirectX version, rather than a problem with DirectX itself. In the 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64' folder, check if there are DirectX 9c files present already, such as d3dcompiler_43.dll, d3dx9_43.dll and xinput1_3.dll.
Check the Event Viewer, and see if it gives an error code or 'Faulting Module' file name, which might help identify the cause of the crash. - click Start (or WinKey-W in Win 8; may have been carried into 10), then type "event viewer" (just "ev" works in 7/8) into the search box. With Win 10, that should bring up 'View event logs'. - after starting the Event Viewer, expand 'Windows Logs' in the left column and select 'Application' - in the center column, look for a recent error (maybe sort by Date and Time) for the game - check the information under the 'General' tab below the list of events, starting with "Faulting application name..."
Did you try renaming the 'Divinity Original Sin' subfolder in your '..\Documents\Larian Studios' folder, to get the game to recreate on startup? If so, do you recall if the game recreated the graphicSettings.lsx file, or the PlayerProfiles folder before crashing? If you didn't try that, if applicable, first disable cloud support either globally (in the client click on the Steam menu and select Settings, and then Cloud) or just for this game (in the library right click Divinity: Original Sin and select Properties, then switch to the Updates tab and check the Steam Cloud section).
