Hello

Just to state game is awesome :)

So the issue: is it possible to use 2 steam controllers for local coop because I can't get it to work. Can't get the second controller to be player 2.
If the 2 steam controllers are out of the question is it possible to use an XBox one and a steam controller (the same thing can't get P2 working) and yes I know I should press start button on the controllers but so far no luck.

This is my 3rd day failing so far and I just got the 2nd steam controller especially for this game.

So any help and advice are more than welcome

It is possible to use 2 steam controllers for local co-op, I've been doing it for the past month.

For me it was as simple as pressing start on the second controller in a game session and choosing a profile.

This is while on a steam link but that should not affect anything.

Try unplugging one of the controllers, start the game and then plug the controller back in. Or try that before starting the game, to make sure both controllers are not trying to act as the primary controller.

So you managed to play 2 steam controller coop- I think I know why mine does not work.
When the game says press any key/ a to continue I press a on the steam controller but the ui does not change to controller layout it stays keyboard/mouse ui.
Of course it works with xbox controller and it switches to controller ui.

So the big question is is it possible to change steam controller to be an actual controller in the game

I would also recommend that you switch to big picture mode for steam when using the controllers. That should allow you to have the controllers register as a controller by default.
