If this patch doesn't fix the problem, what's the next step?

There are more detailed error messages included in the patch which should help identify the source of any remaining connection issues, if there are any.
There are other contingency plans in place, as well. Hopefully there are a limited number of causes for the connection issue, though, and the fixes in the patch will resolve it for everyone.

Bought an ASUS router and now both of my connections have an open NAT. Still not able to connect to each other or multiplayer.
So, I'm hoping the patch fixes the issue as it's clear there is something very specific to the game blocking us from playing together.
EDIT: Okay, I enacted the dual band on the router. We are now technically on "two" different connections and it connected us immediately. Unfortunately that forces one of us to use the wifi instead of a wired connection.

Just dropping in to give this thread a little revive. Husband and I were a little trigger happy and purchased two copies of this game before doing any proper research. To be clear, we bought this game specifically for the multiplayer aspect.
I've gone over this entire thread and tried every little thing that's been suggested, we're still getting that dreaded error message. From speaking with support, I understand that the patch is currently being routed through the powers that be at MS, so here's to hoping.
As it stands now, if you haven't purchased the game, I suggest you WAIT (!!!!) until the kinks have been ironed out.

No, there is no ETA. It will be released as soon as Microsoft approves it.

It does not take 2 weeks for an update to be approved at Microsoft unless they are running into issues with the patch. I bought this game during the Christmas sale specifically to play multiplayer and still have not been able to do so. This is getting a bit ridiculous at this point. Please give us an update or let us know how we can go about getting refunds.

It takes at least a week to test the game. I will check if there is an update.

If things go smoothly, the patch should be released this month, possibly even this week (knock on wood). When it is released there will be an announcement in the forum, and on Facebook / Twitter.

Larian isn't a big named company, as such Microsoft won't be quick to process their patch.

I think what the users above are beating around the bush by asking about next steps is: if the patch doesn't fix the issue are we going to have to wait another 2+ month period before we see results? And in that 2+ month period are we going to get more empty responses, vague answers, and finger pointing at Microsoft or Focus before Larian gets in gear?
...Or are we going to actually get some substance?
Rant you can ignore:
I got a refund on my Steam copy because of false/ambiguous statements about cross-platform play. In a bout of poor judgement I decided to give Larian a second chance by buying an Xbox1 copy. Now I am experiencing the problem described in this 8 page thread. Co-op hasn't worked on three different platforms now. SteamOS, PC and now Xbox One. (granted for differing reasons per platform, but the end result is the same: broken.) Clearly there was little or no quality control in regards to the game's most advertised feature, Co-op.

I got a refund on my Steam copy because of false/ambiguous statements about cross-platform play. The statements were neither false nor ambiguous. In your previous topic you quoted one interview where it was stated the plan was to eventually support Xbox Win 10 cross platform play, if possible, and myself saying that was technically possible but not an announced or confirmed feature of the game.

Valve agreed with me, thus they honored the refund. So that subject is moot. I pointed out your statement to them also. (it is on their forum after all)
But that really wasn't the point of any of what I said in my post.

Valve giving a refund doesn't mean they agreed with you.
I don't have an exact timeframe for when something may be done about a hypothetical situation of unknown complexity, which would have to involve actions and decision from other companies that Larian has no control over.

Having the same connection issues on Xbox one. I was previously able to have my friend join me online. We got about 10-15 hours in and today I started it up and he can no longer connect to my game at all but for some reason I could connect to him if he started a game. My Nat is open, we are able to party chat and play other games online (halo) with no issue. I'm not really sure what else we can do to make it work.
Any word on how the patch is coming with Microsoft?

I hope you can understand this message board's frustration. It isn't like we want your game to not work. It's just that communication from your end clearly has not always been honest. You claimed the game was in submission on the 6th and yet it is still not approved. That is simply not possible no matter how much you want to blame Microsoft. Maybe just being upfront and saying the latest patch failed and you guys aren't really sure how to fix this would really would go a long way to restoring credibility. At this point I really just want a refund for my x1 copy because I shouldn't have to check a forum weekly to see if a major advertised feature is finally going to work.

^^^ this, a friend bought the game and said how great it was and that we could play it together, he convinced me to but a xbox1 & the game just for this purpose 4 months down the line i still can not do this, i'm not saying it was a waist of cash but if i had have known about the issue i would have left the £300+ in bank at the time
