I have posted something in the thread about backgrounds and Zelon asked me to start a new one.

So if you had absolute freedom, what kind of char do you want to have as main char (or maybe a party member)?
It is a human, dwarf, elf, lizard or undead and it is a sourcerer who tries to escape the divine order.
But what did he/she do before?

Human: Igor, the nice idiot assassin

Igor is very strong, but he has a very low intelligence. He lives on a farm with his parents. He is kind and gentle and he likes animals and children. One day an evil sourcerer came along and he realized that Igor has a strong source potential. He paid Igors parent to take Igor with him, he told them he would educate Igor. In his lair, he performed experiments on Igor to release his source power. The experiment was successful, well kind of. Igor gained great strengh, but he fell into a rage and destroyed everything around him, including his master. Igor did not realize that his master was evil. He felt ashamed for killing his master and he did not dare to return to his parents, so he remained in the lair. But he had to escape when the divine order came.

abilities: The sourcerer trained Igor to be an assassin. He is very strong and dual wields strengh based weapons. He has also some skills in sneaking and lockpicking. Because of his low intelligence he is not good with magic.

special ability "Source Rage": Once per battle Igor gaines great strengh and performs special attacks for 3 turns. In his rage he cannot be controlled and he will attack the closest target(s) with brute force, no matter if it is friend, foe or neutral. The rage is so exhausting that he will get penalties for the next 3 rounds after the rage ends.

Note: Playing a strong idiot in arcanum was super funny.

Elf: Flora Bloom, the animal hating but plant loving gardener

She is an elf who discovered as child that she has strong source powers. She was not very beautiful for an elf (though she had many human lovers and even a dwarf) so she tried to improve herself with source magic. It went wrong and she became partly a plant. With her brown skin and green hair, eyes and teeth she looks very strange, but she gained the ability to talk to plants and so she became a famous gardener. For over 200 years she worked in the royal garden of the elf king. They had many problems with rabbits there and so she learned to hate them (and most other animal who eat plants) and she became also a good hunter. She wears cloth and shoes made of cow leather (another animal that eats plants) and gloves, a scarf and hat made of rabbit. This makes her look even stranger because she wears rabbit pelt even in the hottest summer. When the divine order started to hunt sourcerers, she had to escape.

abilities: good in alchemy, earth and water magic and combat with bows. She dislikes fire and most animals.

special ability: She can summon her hunting dog. The dog is not strong, but fast and tough. His special attack is, that he will bite the enemy and not release it until it is dead. The victim must do a saving throw every turn to get rid of the dog. Otherwise the dog will keep on biting. While the dog bites, the victim takes some damage and is slowed. The dog cannot do anything else while biting.

With water and earth magic, a bow and a pet that makes enemies slower she is perfect in kiting enemies from the distance.

Dwarf: George, the demon chef

This is very unusual for a dwarf, but George is great at cooking. He is the only dwarf ever who worked for the elf king as chef. His secret is, that he has strong source powers and he can use them to summon all kinds of things. This allows him to have an unlimited supply of even the most exotic ingrediens. When many important people from all over the world were invited for a festival, George thought that normal cooking would not be enough for this. He tried to improve the food with his magic. But this ended in a great disaster. Most people who ate his special magic food were turned into rabbits. Most of these rabbits escaped into the garden. To make things worse, some of the rabbits have been killed by Flora Bloom and her dog, before somebody could find them and turn them back into people. As soon as he saw the effect of his food, George ran from the castle as fast and far as he could. He blames Flora for his misery, even though the transformation of the guests alone would have been enough to kick him out of the castle (or worse).

abilities: As chef he is good in using knives. Whenever he sees something, he tries (or at least thinks about trying) to make food out of it. He is quite fat because he likes eating a lot. He is also good in summoning, a true master of summoning in fact.

special ability: Once per battle he can try to transform an enemy into a random animal. So you could turn a demon into a cute little rabbit or you can turn a normal wolf into a huge tiger. The result is completely random.

Undead: Hugo, the priest who contradicts himself

Hugo cannot remember his life before death. In fact, he is not even aware of the fact that he is undead. He has lots of charisma and a beautiful voice, so he is good in convincing people to believe in almost everything. He is leader of a sect. When he speaks to his followers he wears a long white robe and a wooden mask because he is aware that he is very ugly. His strange teachings are like this:

- There is only one life and nothing comes before or after it. There are no ghosts, undead or the hall of echoes. When being asked about his race he answers that he is a priest (he does not care that priest is a job while undead or human is a race).
- There is no magic. Everything that seems to be magic is an illusion. He says that while using magic himself.
- There is no order. There is only chaos and the void. He says that although he is obsessed with cleaning and sorting things.
- There are no gods. Everything that exist has been created by a mysterious force called "evolution". He has no Idea what evolution actually is.

He wants to go to the black ring, because he believes they have the same ideals as himself. He does not know what they really do or what they want.

Maybe during the game you meet a god and he will cure Hugo. Realizing that he actually is an undead who talks to a god will be a huge shock for him.

abilities: He is good in healing and buffing magic. He is also good in convincing other people to follow him.

special ability: Once per battle he can sing a song that encourages nearby allies or weakens nearby foes. While singing he can only walk slow and he canot cast a spell and sing at the same time. If he casts a spell while singing, the spell is cast normally but his singing (and the effects of it) stop at once. (Sorry, but I had to save the bard somehow.)

note: One of my favourite chars is Kreia from KotoR2, who loves to spread her twisted philosophy all the time. Hugo is also obsessed of his own teachings, but he has completely lost any touch with reality.

Lizard: Sorry, I did not have a good idea yet.

I just finished a concept for one of the characters I plan to make for my playthrough. I don't know what the final setup will be, but at least I have one character down.
The character is also going to be the protagonist of an origin story that leads to the events of D:OS 2. Just a heads up:

Good to see, that you created the Thread, Scientist smile.

I had now time, to write my two ideas down^^. Not well balanced, but oh well ...

@Draconic

It is an interesting read smile.

-----------------------------

Demon-Elf

Background:You were once one of Rivellons most feared warriors. Maybe that's why the Demon was attracted to you. He posessed your body, but you fought him down and became something else. The power of source and the hellish fires of hell are pumping through your venes and make you faster, stronger, tougher ... but not smarter. And even if you don't want to, you are always mean to everyone in your surroundings. It gives you a bonus to intimitade someone, but your group shouldn't let you talk in any other situations.

- Abilities: You are well trained in the skills of man-at-arms and you know some firemagic.

Special Abilities:

- Combatmasochist: You get bonusdamage, whenever you are hurt, because you pay half of it back to your enemies.

- Demonic strength: Stronger (+2 strength), tougher (+2 Constitution), faster (+1 Dexterity), dumber (-2 Intelligence) and ugly (-3 on every charisma-check, except intimiditation (+1) )

- Jerk: You can't be nice to other people. You really can't. Everytime you start a conversation, you are screaming at people or throw insults at them. Even your companions are annoyed by it. There is still a trick to talk with you and your elvenbrothers and - sisters may be easier on you.

Personal Quest: Get rid of the Demon! Or not ... the Black Ring may have use for you. And this Alexander-guy has to pay. This goal unites you and the demon.

-----------------------------

Undead-Dwarven-Paragon

Background: You were once one of the greatest Kings of the Dwarven Empire (not Emperor!). Than something pulled you back in the world of Rivellon. It has something to do with a phropecy, you coming back and helping your clan in need. Sadly, they now live in the middle of the empire and you have to wander a few thousand miles, to get to them.

Crap.

Source was once your lifeblood and it still holds you together. Maybe it will be enough for your journey ... it would also help, to remember what excactly you have to do.

Abilities: You are a good healer and the earth is also very fond of you (boni on magic reated to the element of earth)

Special Abilities:

- It burns: Only the best took care of your body, when you died. That's why it still holds itself so good together. But it's also the reason why fire is much more dangerous for you. You take more damage, when attacked with fire and rain does make it worse. It's the fault of this special oil your people once used.

- Old knowledge: you were there, when history was written. That gives you sometimes knowledge about old passages or dwarven-related history. Sometimes it also means to get an advantage about an old enemy. But it also means, that you are a bit out of touch with the youngsters ...

- Beloved elder: You are a figure of legends, and that's why dwarves are more ready to talk with you, let you pay less or even give you special informations and quests. When dwarves are part of your group, they get boni in combat (damage and speed).

Personal Quest:

You have to help your clan! But it could help to know with what and how you can solve the problem. Maybe you find some clues on your journey. You should find at least one library, where you can refresh your own lifestory.

Two more. Still looking for an idea for a (living) dwarf.

-----------------------------------

Lizard Assassin of the House Ssshhh

Background: your house isn't one of the most powerful, but the others still come to your elders, when they are in need. A good kill can end old feuds or create new ones and once, you had the chance to become one of the best. But you screwed up. Worse: you fled! Now you are looking for a good hide-out until everything is over. Maybe your source powers are useful for once.

Abilities: You are good at making the life of others miserable. That means you are good with Scroundel-skills and Witchcraft.

Special Abilities:

Snake-yyy: You are not very strong (-2 strength), but your dexterity is astounding (+3 Dexterity).

Speed-yyy: You are good at getting away, so it cots you less AP. Good for fighting enemies from a distance.

Coward: You NEVER can be immune to fear and yu will never intimitidate other people. On the other side, there is always a way, so you get a bonus for reasoning with people or charming them.

Personal Quest: There has to be a place, where you can feel safe. Maybe you find it in the Ranks of the Black Ring. Or it is time to learn responsibility ... nah.

------------------------------------

Human Ranger from another Country

Background: Your ancestors fought the evil Sourcerer King Braccus Rex and the legendary Bairdotir is your greatest hero. That's why chosed, to travel the world and become a great hero! But you are not familiar with the trappings of civilisation and maybe that's why the Order took you. You have to escape, but also to stop Bishop Alexander. He's evil and you are the hero. But why are they talking about, as if you are a sourcerer?

Abilities: You have no knowledge about magic, but you are a good at repairing, crafting and Marksmanship. And you can talk with animals. Maybe that's enough.

Special Abilities:

- Fearless: You never leave a fight. Never. Unfortunality you also can't tell a lie. Ever.

- Naiive: You may have no social skills and no knowledge about your surroundings, but other people seem to like you. Everyone reacts a bit more positive at the first meeting and give you a cut at their prices.

- Helpful ancestors: Even the Dead like you. That's why you can summon a random hero from the past once a fight, to stand at your side. You can do this three times, then you have to refresh it with a source point. It is also random how strong the helpful hero really is.

Personal Quest: You are a hero. You do heroic stuff. Helping others, be a good person, stopping Alexander from making everyone helpless puppets. It's not easy, but somebody has to do it. Ancestor Bairdotir would be proud, you are sure. But you have to be he good guy. ALWAYS.
