I wonder... how would madness fit in the DOS2 mechanics?

A rule for madness: a variable that can go up to 100 and the higher it is, the higher characters hallucinate.

Are you suggesting a mechanic similar to Call of Cthulu? Divinity isn't exactly a horror game.

I know. But in Pnp it is always a very interesting mechanic.

There is plenty of horror in the Divinity universe however, the Demon of Lies being the first of many things.

WARNING: The one who is mad himself has an idea about madness woehoe

You gain reputation for doing either heroic or mad things. If you get enough of it you may get some special quests or items.

example: there is a kitten on a tree
heroic action: you climb on the tree and save the cat
mad action: You set the tree on fire and when the cat comes down and wants to escape, you catch it and cover it with honey just to see how the cat is chased by killer bees.

If you are heroic enough people give you the quest to defeat a dragon because they think you are strong and brave enough to succeed.
If you are mad enough people give you a completely insane quest just to get rid of you. Like you are asked to find the invisible pink unicorn at the other end of the rainbow on moon. And when you follow this quest you may find something more insane than you could ever imagine.

PS: If somebody reads this and thinks this is a good idea, you should really visit a doctor (not me!) crazy

DoS 2 could have lovecraftian elements. I remeber reading "In the mountains of madness."
Could we vote for an areas with lovecraftian setting ?

I adore last image level design and dark fantasy tone.
Will there be darker tone of world in DOS2 ?
Also, exploration would be more interesting in vertical and mazelike levels.

I'm thinking this could work.

You could gain madness trait by doing mad things like speaking gibberish and hallucinating via drugs and thus doing weird and unusual things that will get you in trouble with people.

The payoff is you gain the madness trait which gives you a special type of perception in conversation and a crazed attack option in combat (as long as you maintain the madness trait)
=>You perceive which people are acting unusually and/or are distressed and bothered by trauma (sort of functions like insight). This perception would give you conversation options ie.

To a cheating husband:
[madness] Says something suitably mad that hints at infidelity

Husband response:
"Get away from me you loon!"
Panics and checks up on his wife which exposes his behaviour to the wife. After all if the local loon knows...

=>For combat crazed attack stance would grant you two attacks instead of one with a weapon at the cost of wearing your best equipped armour. (you might decide to wear a bucket helmet going into battle)
