Cloud saving is automatic on the Xbox if you are logged in to Xbox Live... I don't know if you can turn it off, actually, short of not logging in to Xbox Live.
If the Xbox would let you start a different game without shutting down D:OS, then I don't think that should cause a problem, especially if you were exiting out of the game anyway.
