Hello everyone!
I have a big problem in starting the game, the following message "Failed to create rendering device!"
"The Application failed to create the device rendering. Please make sure you meet the minimum specifications! (DX11 compatible GPU with the latest drivers installed)
And so I press OK, the game closes nor opens.
Below my system settings.
PS: I've tried in compatibility mode and administrator. unsuccessfully.
need a lot of help from you, there is someone available?
thank you all!

Unfortunately, the 9800 GT only has hardware support for DirectX 10. Just having DirectX 11 installed is not enough, the GPU must fully support it.

You should be able to play the Classic version (which is 32 bit, rather than 64, and uses DirectX 9c), but would need to upgrade your video card (if possible) to be able to play the Enhanced Edition on that system.

In dxdiag on the Display tab, the 'DDI Version' in the Drivers section on the right is what the video drivers are reporting for hardware DirectX support. This can be higher or lower than the actual value, though (it should be 10 for your card), so looking up the specs is more reliable.

Okay, as someone with the same issue (9600gt which supports 'software dx11'), I have run other games that utilize directx11 or have dx11 modes that play fine. Is there something innate about D:OS EE that requires the hardware aspect of DX11?

While I understand that Larian can't guarantee it to function, is there some workaround or hotfix that people are using to at least get the game to start?

I have attempted everything Thiev and others suggested over on this thread: http://larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=572445

It just seems a bit off that all the features exclusive to EE (Split-screen couch co-op, etc) aren't doable on even low-mid video settings with this setup. Is purchasing a new graphics card the make-or-break? It seems the game just hard-denies any attempts at startup if DX hardware does not equal "11". Is that because EE's features cannot be replicated for 'software dx11' on gpu's such as nvidia 9600-9800gt?

Not possible. The EE engine is upgraded and uses different processes under the hood visually.
It's not so much about the individual features like split screen and such.

Unfortunately there are no workarounds; hardware support is required. The issue in the topic you link to was a driver or system problem, where the hardware did support DirectX 11, but there was a problem with the video drivers.

As SniperHF said, the difference isn't so much the individual new features, but the switch to 64 bit and overhaul and optimizations of the game engine.

Then it looks like a GPU upgrade is in order. Also, does anyone know if split-screen couch co-op available in "Classic"?

No, the split screen local co-op was added in the Enhanced Edition (D:OS Classic doesn't have controller support, while local co-op in the EE requires using 2 controllers).
