OK, I searched the forum, and seems like I'm the only one missing something. In the first town, I want to sell off some of my things to the guy that wanted the plant. I gave him the plant and he said he'd give me a "smallish discount". When ever I try to sell anything, buy anything, whatever, he says (in broken english) "Sure, that you want to pay more than that item is worth?" and if I click the checkmark, the window just closes and the transaction doesn't take place. If I click the x, the item I want to sell just goes back into my inventory. I feel like an idiot, but I've never had a problem buying and selling things in an RPG before, lol. What am I doing wrong?

I tried to make a screenshot but it didn't work.

Have a look at the trade window. You see your side + items and the trader side.
On your side is a small balance scale icon (upper left side). If you click on this you pay with the money you have. If you wish to trade goods against goods, you click on an item on your side and it goes into the trading bar on your side.

The same goes for the trader's side = his items and if he has enough money, the balance scale on his side is paying you the money your item is worth.
Checkmark = you accept
cross = you close and leave this deal unaccomplished.

Other icons, you click on and activate:
looking glass = identify, the items you want to identify on your side have a blue description underneath AND you have to pay in money
hammer = repair, the item you want to repair has a red description, you have to pay in money.
hand = back to trading mode

If these icons are not highlighted it means, this trader can't identify/repair.
Kiya

If the trader does not have enough money, you can identify/repair items first, then go back to trading = maybe he has enough money now for your goods?

And welcome to the forum, Nntp <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks to both of you for the quick reply. I understand it now. Seems a bit more complicated than it needs to be (all I was doing wrong it seems is clicking the check mark without clicking on the item I had already put in my trade window first).

Thanks again for your help.

I think it's a worthy addition. It means you can't just pawn off everything you own. The trader needs to have enough gold to pay you. Mind you, the traders later in the game have far too much money.
