Hey guys,
Picked up the game a couple days ago and it's been a lot of fun thus far. Currently have a level 14 mage at the Abbey and I'm getting discouraged with this class Keep having to pass up all these nice weapons and/or armor with my strength only at around 35, etc...
The steel skeletons are troublesome - I end up having to waste a lot of mana on casting spikes to take out one or two of them. So, being someone who hates having to "sleep" every 3 minutes to get mana back up, I was thinking of starting over as a warrior.
Does the game continue to be this slow going for wizards or do the more powerful spells such as Hail lessen this to any extent? I hate to give up all these nice 100dmg halberds/axes and, in turn, have a hard time killing off the next guy with spells.

Actually, level 14 is a little low for the cursed Abbey with any class. I think warrior is probably the easiest class to play, but some find the mage easier / more powerful (I have not played a mage). differences between classes

Thanks for the reply. As a warrior, what weapon(s) do you use? I've seen several posts alluding to bows but, myself, I like to get into the thick of things with an axe and lop off some heads Is toe-to-toe combat doable in the early part of the game for a warrior?

it is but you start with minor clubs and stuff. Big axes need strength 60 but I am using a axe with strength 35 and it does 30-44 damage and kills skeletons in one hit.

Aric's Warrior guide, look here, pleaseBTW, I played this game as mage on easy and normal lvl. I stopped boosting up my strength with 70. Cursed Abbey: The skeleton archers, steel archers there go down like nothing with lightning. The liches don't like meteor strike. I visited every trader faithfully over and over again to buy every spell book. Kiya

Get Skeletal Wall (16th) to summon blockers that actaully do damage ! This spell has been awesome for my Survivor (Archer/wizard with sword too, heh). Its not actually a "wall" but a spell that summons 5 skeletons at once. They then move around to attack anything dangerous they see. You can run away and lure monsters back to your waiting skeletons (skeletons dont follow you).
While your blockers are distracting your foes, you can be using spells and then switch to a bow to do damage, when you want to save mana. If you need an extra kick, poison the arrows (skill) and spread the hate around.
At 16th you can also get the skill to reflect all missle attacks. I have heard that it works so well you can pretty much ignore archers like steel archers, but I dont have the skill (didn't need it).
I currently have 35 minor restoration and 15 restoration potions, and I dont use them fast enough (most battles never use 1) I leave herbs on the ground all of the time.
I cant give much advice on playing a pure wizard type as the only elemental-type spells I use are freeze and lightning (deadly disks I didn't like). I find archery and the occasional two swats from a 75 damage bastard sword, is all the mana-free killing power I need. Only need around 45 STR DEX for these.

From reading it appears that you left the Cursed Abbey until you hit level 70 on strength. Is this correct kiya? I took out the main floor but definitly need to get better for the start of the basement. Keep getting zapped by the lightning in the first room. Thanks!

No, my strength lvl had nothing to do with the Cursed Abbey, just with my max strength for my mage char (so I may wear the Larian/dragon armour 60/70 strength). I normally enter this Abbey at about lvl 20 - it can be done at lower lvl if you have lightning and meteorstrike - and purple potions to boost up resistances in the trapped area. I did this once at lvl 15 or so, just to check which teleporter scrolls solve the teleporter quests. But it was a bit more strenuous than going in at higher lvl. Kiya
