If you take control of the other characters (or try in single player, if you're the host), do they show up at full health for you?
Has your friend tried having the characters lie on a bed or sleeping mat (there are some near the Cyseal north gate teleporter, or in the Hall of Heroes, etc).
Have your friend remove and re-equip any items the characters may have with HP or constitution bonuses. Does that help?
