I can activate my steam key right now. But I want the GOG version of the game. Do I really have to wait until October?

Here is what gog says:
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is planned to join the Games in Development program on GOG.com in October 2016.

You need to wait:

Quote
WARNING: Do NOT get a Steam key now if you want to play this game on GOG. Keys are currently only available for Steam, but keys for GOG will come later. You will NOT be able to swap a Steam key for a GOG key. If you want to play on GOG, you will have to wait until Divinity: Original Sin 2 is available on GOG.

If I back Divinity: Original Sin 2 and I want to get my copy on GOG, will I still have Alpha/Beta access?
You'll definitely be able to access the Alpha/Beta through Steam (and hopefully through GOG too, but we're working on that at the moment and it’s not 100% certain). However, the Alpha/Beta access that you choose won't affect which version of the game you get when it ships. So, you can access the Alpha/Beta through Steam and then get the final game on GOG.com if you want.

By the sounds of it, GOG is getting the alpha/beta but it will be delayed compared to the Steam Early Access version until October (Like ~2-6 weeks later I suppose?), however the full release of D:OS2 isn't until sometime next year so you'll still have the alpha/beta for most of it.

Divinity: Original Sin II is planned to join the Games in Development program on GOG.com in October 2016.

I assume that's GOG's new early access like program.

YES, you can get Alpha/Beta access through GoG. But It will have to wait until October.

Yes it's a mild delay and that sucks, but it's not that big of a delay. The Alpha will probably last for a minimum of 3 months, so there will still be plenty of time for your feedback to make a difference.

Unless something has changed from D:OS EE, yes they can play together*

*When the versions are identical, sometimes there's a delay in patching on GOG.

For Early Access, at least to start there is just online multiplayer.

Does that mean on september 15, players can only play online multiplayer? There is no single player or local multi player in the beginning?

If this is right I can wait for the gog release, because I always play as single player.
I hope I understand you wrong, Raze.

Sorry, I was just referring to multiplayer. I wasn't sure if LAN and Direct Connection would be included initially in Early Access, after a comment about multiplayer just being online. I double checked, and I think that was referring to not having local co-op initially, rather than only having the online lobby.
The Early Access release can be played single player, but there is no local split screen co-op initially (or controller support initially).
