Use 3 of the blood stones (double click, or right click and use); just having them in your inventory doesn't do anything (outside of a couple quests where you can use one from a dialogue). The Forbidden Zone portal site can not be activated; activating the other 3 will get the door to let you into the Source Temple.
Excellent! Thanks very much indeed for the reply Raze. Good to know that it was something I hadn’t done rather than a bug! I’d found a few threads about game stopping bugs with the Imp, along similar lines, with the original edition of the game, so it’s a relief to know I’m not locked out.
My big mistake was taking Zixzax literally when he keeps saying “I see you’ve
found another star stone” each time he opens new portals
After reading your advice I went back and completed a quest I’d forgotten about - healing Alfie. I’d orginally healed him to full health using the first aid skill (which doesn’t hurt him like magic healing does) but he still didn’t move on. I intended to go back and use a bloodstone once I’d collected a few more, but I forgot (one of the perks of reaching age 70 is that you get to plead the Senility Defence…. ).
That opened a new portal room, where I met Astarte again and she gave me a much clearer explanation that indicated I had to use some more stones, rather than just find them. If only she'd told me that earlier... But they do say that Experience is the attribute that you tend to get just
after you need it...
And I also discovered that keeping them in inventory is unnecessary. I could leave them on the ground and still get the result.
So close…. so close…. but no cigar for me this time…
