Okay so I have put 20 hours into the game with Ifan alone only to find out that ten hours ago when Gareth attacked me, after I saved his life in two fights, is an important dude. Not only did he attack me for no reason ( made sure to try that fight 3 times and to not hit him directly or with any AOE) now he is dead and not only am I supposed to find him, i'm supposed to save him. He is dead so what thats fine, what isn't fine is the fact that even if I stand on his dead body I cant say that he is dead and all I can say is that i haven't found him yet. This seems like a problem to me because I now have a quest that I cant finish because of the AI. What annoys me is not that I cant finish a quest its that I cant finish a quest because of things outside of my control and the game wont let me say he is dead.

Which one was Gareth - was he a part of Ifan's personal quest chain? If so, you'll be approached later by a different person who will continue the quest line

No, Gareth is the leader of the Seekers. He's part of and important to the main plot.

You can get off the island without him or the Seekers but they are relatively important to the plot and the fact that after i saved his life he decided to attack me I find, both a questionable decision by Larian in terms of plot and annoying that I cant complete a quest because of something out of mu control.
