first i played this game as the wizard, pretty strong actually when i upped my lighting skills, it takes no skill to aim since it goes directly to the enemy unlike the fireball which could miss if the enemy moves. strong but frustratingly slow. i cast like crazy kill monsters, then sleep to regain mana. repeat this. and it gets tedious because you can't sleep whenever you want to.
quit playing right when i approached janus for the first time.

ok, so i thought about using the warrior. i mean i also find weapons for him. not as strong as i thought, wasn't strong enough to use the heavier weapons, so it was just hack and slack, until health runs out, then cast health spell, then sleep when mana runs out. repeat. this is boring too since i end up sleeping a lot and i can't sleep whenever i want. won't let me. stopped playing after done with underground aleron

then i used assasin, but this guy rarely gets hit, and doesn't use mana for his arrows. so i could go on a marathon without resting. the mage is easiest to kill the bosses while the warrior was the hardest, cuz he keeps getting hit, while the assasin is in the middle. a lot of hit and run and dodging the ranged weapons. but doable and more fun. takes more "twitch" skills i guess.

a tip, i just figured this out. before when i wanted to rest i would use my teleporter stone, sleep in my bed, then use the teleportals to portal to the nearest portal i was in before. a lot of walking. but now i use the "use and drop teleporter stone". so i rest in bed, then use the teleporter stone next to bed to reappear where i was before. just remember to pick back up you stone. =)
this is saving me time bigtime. should of though of this before.

Your Assasin character sounds like fun, and a bit more of a challenge to play than the mage. I've been thinking about making a Ranger/Assasin for a while, but wasn't sure if the character would be viable. I'd like to give your build a try.
By the look of your post, it seams that you use a bow as your main attack. But can you also tell me what skills and stats you invested in?

Hmm, what I see from your post that your char in more a ranger, bowman.

I'd like to hear some thoughts from assassin's who's main tacktic is sneaking and backstabbing. What is the max backstab damage ? How well can you sneak?

P.S.: First I played as a Mage, but it was just... I dont know, the mage wasnt much fun... Mainly I was using fireball...

SO i started Warrior - looks fine, Im lvl 16 now, quite good sword and stuff, and if there is a harder Boss - Like Vampire - So i take of composite bow and show him, But My warrior isnt a "warrior" i have some healing spells, few survivor skills, like lock opening, and stelath (cool skill)

But just curious, as far as I m playing i have used bed ONCE, never more... All other I balance with potions so Maybe it is just me but really with no of characters in DD i should sleep... Only potions..

yeah my bow is my main weapons of choice. i use my skill points on bow expertise whenver i can. i also just put one on elemental arrows, and it kicks butt. it does 40+50 elemental damage WITH my regular bow damage which is 20-120. this in only the first level and it uses only 1 mana point. for stats i mainly keep my agility and strength to a 2:1 ratio respectively. right now im like a lv 18, stats are 40,85,10,10. also invest in lockpicks, ranger sight, etc.. the essesntials i guess.

i don't use sneaking at all cuz i don't know exactly how to use it effectively. anyways, for backstabbing it only does double the damage, with increases to the skill only increasing the percentage of actually doing backstab. im at 1 skill point at backstab and in the very first parts of the game, i used a dagger which had backstab ability and attacked normally, it would every so often so up as backstab damage along with the damage points.

I always wanted to play an "evolving" class... like in adventures, where you start by just surviving, stealing, hiding and so on... then you get stronger and become *the* man, kill everyone with one swing... and then you become older and wiser and evolve into a mage...
That's pretty possible in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />, since to be a good thief you don't need all the skills and some skills could be usefull through the rest of the game (like lockpicking), a mage could use warrior's skills (i thought of getting charm skill when i start getting medium charms, because minor charms cost 10-1000 times more than weapons you use at that time, so no need for charm skill too early), so it seems possible... if only they have fixed some skills, *sigh*, will wait a bit longer.

Well i picked Survivor and started with the backstabbing stealth combo, it didn't work that well for me in the beginning, so i also went into the ranger skills...now that is kicking butt. Bow Expertise (plus a bow with speed +2) a few times and i'm shooting arrows crazier than legolas in LOTR. I went into the split arrows though,
haven't tried the elemental one. Split arrows pretty hectic, does 4 hits on 1 target if it's close range or hit 4 seperate targets on a distance.

After that i took the poison weapon thief skill..now i don't know if it's just me but that is almost overpowered strong combined with a bow. I haven't tried the poison arrow ranger skill though (because i prolly don't need to?)..but poison weapon seems to be dual function as it is useable on -any- weapon. Add it to your dagger with backstabbing+sneaking and well...enemy is dead pretty fast (if they're not resist poison of course). Anyway i'm lvl 18 about and using the survivor special move
(sneak) with archery is pretty interesting too, some low sight+hearing mobs
can easily be hit on a distance, then you go in sneak mode and they turn around, you stand up and go again and repeat.

So i have points into my backstabbing etc, but my bow is still doing better because i'm obviously not getting hit. Only thing that i've found useful with the backstabbing+sneak combo is when you know there's a crazy mass of mobs together, then you can sneak up to one..take him out and sneak to the next, they don't seem to notice (if they're not too close to each other). Although deadly gift with scorpions tends to make
it rather useless (have one point in that too, so far it seems to be enough).
