Hello! I made an account to write this, I hope I posted it in the right spot, please let me know if I did anything wrong! smile

I was playing DOS: EE today and I decided to try out playing with the controller for the first time. While I found navigating through the menus and various game functions a bit complicated compared to just using the mouse and keyboard, I did enjoy one thing: My characters actively moving with the use of the controller stick rather than me clicking on the ground for where I want them to go.

I had wanted this since the original DOS, and I was wondering if something like this but with the WASD keys was possible for DOS2. Instead of the WASD keys moving the camera (which could be done with the arrow keys), the WASD keys could instead be used to make your characters move. The option to use the mouse to click on the ground to make the characters move can still be available for those that prefer it of course, but I feel like this could make the game feel more interactive in that you are more in charge of how the characters move than just clicking on the ground to tell them where to go.

I decided to make this topic since I had wanted this feature for a long time and while I'll enjoy the game regardless I'd really like to see if others would also enjoy this and to make it possible for the devs to see it. Thank you!

I would like this as an option too.

As someone who does a lot of work on my PC, my index finger cramps up so bad while playing this game. I wish it didn't involve so much clicking...

I love WASD movement and am usually a proponent of it in Isometric Camera games. However, I think in this game it's not necessary.

It would be janky to have the characters move via WASD out of combat and move with clicks in combat. Considering that this game doesn't have action combat and instead has a more strategic combat system where you are manipulating chess pieces, I think the point-and-click style is very apt.

But we've already seen that it works great with the controller so I think an option alongside the mouse would be great laugh.

Glad I'm not the only one who supports this!

couldnt be too hard to implement.
I think it could help with the feeling of responsiveness of the game. Tho i think this would work better with a controller than with WASD

Don't see why it would be particularly better with a controller than WASD keys. It's not different than other games using WASD to move. And as long as it's an option along with the already available mouse movement then what's the harm? laugh

Yea victor vran did a good job with wasd movement. If you need to go diagonal you can always use the mouse or some other key (or keycomb such as wa). Anyway I vaguely think I made this suggestion in D:OS1 and it was rejected but maybe it will be done here.

But how do we control the camera then? I use WASD in combat for overview... I would suddenly be running about.

I prefer mouse, being able to just click on the other side of the map and let them find their own way. But I welcome the option. Haven't tried it with the gamepad yet but from what I heard the D:OS console version worked fine with a controller so hopefully they'll be carrying it over.

I can't see why you shouldn't get the option.

It's probably going to be a hell of a mess to accurately move your characters and interacting with the area will be a lot more difficult too, but more options for the player is never a bad idea.

In EE on console, you move your character with the thumbstick and the camera just stays directly overhead. You can rotate it and stuff, and press another button to enter "manual targeting mode", which is essentially what the PC version is by default. The console version uses a superior system, in my opinion. Character movement feels very natural and very 1:1 when you actually move them with buttons, and of course if you want to, you can just click somewhere far away and go do laundry while you walk there.

Also, in combat, the WASD keys would just switch to controlling the camera. Easy enough.

Yep that's what I was thinking too. Plus the camera could still be moved independently with the arrow keys on the right of the keyboard.

Arrow keys and/or enable edge panning on the camera.

Yes that's what I'd like as well. It wouldn't work well inside combat because I can just imagine players (including me) accidentally using more action points than they'd like to move and stuff smile. But outside of combat, yes!

I totally agree.

And being an "old hand" at playing on the pc I've come to hate the excessive clicking.

Not to mention that I work a lot with spreadsheets and the new system we are having put in at the end of the year is practically devoid of shortcut keys. sad

I can easily see myself with a Repetitive Strain Injury before I even reach level 5.

Great last words.

Oh no. Not again...

I use WASD to pan the camera, but it couldn't hurt to add this option.
