I like the learn-it-all style. It's why I invest in nothing but memory for my main character.
That aside, you do require a level in a school in order to learn skills from that tree, but there is a (Glitch? Feature?) where you can equip a piece of equipment with, say, +1 hydrosophist or such, and learn those skills. I don't know if this will stay, but because memory slots are dedicated to the skills, a significant investment is still required, and I feel it is fairly balanced, even as of now. Just my opinion, though.
