Final battle:
Main char is talking to Alexander
Rest of the party is placing barrels around him.
shouldn't he notice something and start the battle after barrel 2 is behind him especially since the entire magister camp is seeing you do it.

Well yes, if the game was trying to aim for full realism sure. Just like an NPC ought to notice a huge rock "sneaking" up on him/her. Thats simply the style of game this is. Not only by estetic choise, but its also not yet possible to have actually intelligent NPCs in games.

There will always be areas where you are simply going to haveto suspend your disbelief and go with the internal logic of the game. In this game, if an NPC is in a dialogue, that NPC cant interact or do stuff untill the dialogue is over. Even if things were coded the other way around you would be able to create other weird situations where you can interrupt iportant story dialogue by doing stuff in the background with other characters.

I like that you can distract a single NPC, but if that NPC has friends around him in sight, you still have to deal with them somehow.

I agree. Some obvious actions should disrupt dialogues and instantly lead to combat.

Are you sure you still want that to happen when you are playing coop and your buddy decides to steal something pointless because he/she is being impatient and then instead of resolving an important dialogue you now go straight to combat?

I'm all for "setting the stage" before a battle. But it should at least be challenging. You should sneak, use walk in shadows, invisibility potions and set the stage.

But just chatting up one member and then you 3 other party members set the stage without any sneaking, well that is just too easy.

The last battle I almost one shotted the entire alexander party by gathering every barrel and having a chain reaction of explosions around the camp.

Yes! Actions should always have consequences. If your coop buddy does stupid things the whole group can get punished. That' how roleplaying works and always worked. Blame your buddy. wink

This is a valid criticism.

But there are much bigger problems with the coop than this. If your coop partner is this unreliable, then you should play solo.

I dunno. There's always a fine line between a challenge and a chore, and I think where it's drawn really depends on one's subjective preference. In this instance I actually like the game's mechanic of just being able to distract someone; perhaps it is "too easy", in which case maybe it should be removed from, say, Tactician Mode, but otherwise I'd like to see it left as it is.

I guess the balance in D:OS worked well enough for me, the example that sticks in my mind being the obligatory looting of the general store: distracting the guards got them to look away from where one of my characters was thieving stuff, but she still had to be careful to stay out of the sight cones of the proprietor and her fancy man who I didn't yet have enough people to occupy. I figure the same would work quite well for offensive stuff that needs to be placed.

Hmm, I think I may have inadvertently agreed with you after so enthusiastically saying "I disagree!" Er, well, I'll just rephrase that to "I protest!" because everyone likes a good protest.

As long as it's not as hard as stealing the documents from the army base in Stalker. Okay, I could have simply gone in all guns blazing as the guides suggest doing (I may have even pulled it off without being pwned) but stealth was more fun. God, it was difficult, though.

if only you make the barrels invisible. Then everything would be solved

I often trip over invisible objects IRL. Nothing else can explain my clumsiness.
