Yeah, you can have more bonuses, but just remember that staff is considered a two-handed weapon and hits based on int which means higher crit multiplier (if you put points into two handed) so I can sort of imagine phoenix diving into an enemy with my enraged, hasted, adrenaline rushed, flesh of sacrificed, staff bro to cleave into things.

Or wand/shield if I don't care for the missing stat point and care more about survivability (dat +110~ physical armor doe).
I think it depends on the Wizard you're building, your game plan, resources available, etc. Because a staff can be pretty competitive.

And yeah fire/earth or air/water will combo which is pretty cool but that potential for friendly fire means your melees might be stacking more magic armor

Not discrediting it though, it's damn powerful.
