I'm with ya, man. I even murdered some of the companions. Just beat it, still have my source collar. There'll probably be a way to get it off in act II, because I know I'm not alone amongst my friends; I have two that can't figure out how to get their collars off, and one who (strangely enough) doesn't want his collar off at all. He wants to beat the game with it on. I hope there's something for all of us in the final game.
