I am in the
pirate cave with the undead illusionist.

Eventually I stumble upon the treasure room with soul jars.

I may stash, smash or consume the Soul jars - what are the consequences of each option?

Keep them all except for possibly

The Jester one at the far end, which you can smash. The other soul jars are needed for two different quests I think. The good news is that if you drop them, you can still consume them for a source point or smash them later.

Honestly, consuming those souls is pretty pointless right now. It's easy enough to get source points from corpses.

I'm actually quizzed with the whole thing because

devouring souls actually has 0 impact on their owners. I mean, the respective owners of those souls seem to be quite "alive" and well inside Braccus' tomb even with their souls devoured.

Is it intended, a missing feature, something else?

At least it explains, why two of the skeletons were dead and the third still alive, even though the still alive skeleton did not acknowledge, that his comrade were already gone.
