In some fights you get jumped on, and before you can really do anything you have eaten 2 grenades and 2 AOE's with 2 members stunned and the other two standing in an inferno. It happens, and I usually find myself saying "well shit, I guess I should have been moving more carefully" **loads last save and spreads party out**

What if we had the option of choosing a combat formation that you started in? Different shapes, and different gaps between party members. You could potentially balance it by making the loose formations penalize your first combat turn by 1 or even 2 ap per character, with ap returning to normal in subsequent turns.

Personally, it would make me need to hit F5 less because I know that first turn I'm not going to get completely destroyed if I'm running a squishy party.

I'd be curious to know others' thoughts on this.

NOTE: its no where near the state the DOS 1, turn 1 CC was (love the new armor system), but turn one can still be pretty brutal

I actually enjoy the current system which enforces either having the higher initiative to take preventive measures or equipping your characters with better armor to take that initial hit. Also, I hope they include the combat formations from DOS1.

- Early a few points in Wits and leadership as high as possible.
- Sneak approach enemies or inspect possible ambushes.
- Bait enemies by only showing the tank or just send him first and get the others afterswards.
- Enough layers of armor and magic armor to resist CC, not like enemies only armor or magic armor

There are definitely ways around it, I guess it comes down to the playstyle that Larian wants to encourage.
