The point isn't to brag, the point is that what I was doing wasn't advanced tactics. It was just normal stuff that pretty much anybody could do if they gave it even a moment of thought. If they balance the game around people who are unwilling to even go that far then we will end up with a rather boring game. Difficulty sliders exist specifically for people like that who just want to experience the story and don't care about the tactical aspects of the gameplay.
