Played through the (awesome) alpha in around 10 hours doing pretty much everything. Other people online were saying that was around 1/3 to 1/4 of the game. Any clarification on this? Hoping it's not true since the game would be much, much shorter than the previous one which would be pretty disappointing ...

The second and third acts are not done yet, and there are still things to be done for act 1, so estimating playtime is difficult; 1/4 is the estimate of the content, though.
FWIW, the aim is to keep the playtime within 40 hours, assuming full knowledge of the plot and game systems, no crafting, etc, so that QA can do a full playthrough in a week. This was also the case for D:OS.

That's reassuring, thank you.

So it's as long as DOS1 and 25% of the game is released so far?
Hmm, sounds a tad disappointing to me, tbh, as I felt the first game was really short, and the first act of DOS2, even including getting to know the game for starters, was fastly done as well.
But I hope there will be a bit more content filled in throughout development, slightly pumping it up in the end.

Quality over quantity. D:OS1 felt really long to me, but it felt padded with tons of inventory management and lame fights that took forever.

Another thing to consider is that D:OS2 will probably have way better replay value than D:OS1, since there's going to be so many different possible results for things, and also you have 6 origin stories but only 4 members. Also consider arena fights, GM mode, and a better platform for mods as a way to vastly increase total playtime in an interesting way.

That said, the first island did feel pretty quick to me, though I surprisingly got 14 hours. I probably did 75% of the stuff, perhaps less. The overall flow and distribution was pretty solid. I usually felt like I was accomplishing something. Part of the problem is the lack of challenge, as well as knowing it will end, so I didn't feel like I needed to seek out every power boost I could get. Harder fights and more of a need to build good characters will definitely add a couple hours.

All of these factors will add to the playtime without padding the game with bad quests or trash fights, as many games do to increase playtime.
