Same. I was wondering if it's intentional, a sort of punishment for being repeatedly caught, or if it is a glitch. I didn't lose all my equipment but maybe as much as a quarter of my precious things went missing.
Snap! 90% of stuff was gone the second time in the jail for me.
I was wondering if they had put your things in a different chest the second time (which would sort of make sense as you obviously found it the first time) but couldn't find it anywhere else so I reloaded I'm sorry to say.
