Well, it's really important that you don't run into fights underleveled. Second thing to remember is that MA and PA are your only gods in this game. Get Armor of Frost and Fortify on your tanks, put them far out in the front and let your mages just cast spells out of hiding once the tanks have been engaged (naturally with Fortify and Magic Shell on them to prevent CC)
That being said, some party comps don't even work with this patch.
