Key word in that sentence is "Larians(sic) asked", as in they decided that it might be cool to get the guy in. It isn't some random forum user going "Larian you are incompetent, hire this guy, he can fix your game in a month tops you losers".
Additionally, there's a difference between bringing in someone at the start and dumping them into the middle after two and a half years of development.
