if i had to vote between the two i'd prefer the latter i can think up a furthering of that system aswell.

first use of CC applies a lesser effect e.g. chilled to frozen that increases damage of that type
second use of CC applies the normal effect
third use of CC increases the damage of that type and increases duration of said CC for 1 turn

I don't think any of these should apply to physical damage as its in a good spot but magic damage is going to have a hard time staying relevant thanks to resitsances

Epic encounters' system was nice but all the % made it feel underwhelming with the new armor system with guarantees of effects applying it could be a whole lot more fun.
p.s. i'll consider making a full list of status effects if im in the mood
