From what I have seen they are 100% accurate. I suspect that means they have not put much balance in for them yet. But I would be lying to say I thoroughly tested it. I spend more time trying to control surfaces than creating them, but in general, even in the early game I do not see them game breaking yet. Especially since you need to chew through magical/physical armor first before they are effective.
