When the fellow on the beach wakes up he sez volks made work of the ship - but it sure looked like the kraken to myself.

Perhaps kraken is a voidwoken?

The Kraken has the same coloration as the void-tainted turtle and the Voidwoken Deepdweller, so it's a good chance that the Kraken is a Voidwoken.

Well the funnier things is later on when he has a conversation with potential companion they ask him how he got away from the kraken. I think it is a booboo.

You think what's a booboo, exactly? Because the various voidwoken are called different things. Again, there's the Deepdweller you fight during act 1, the void-tainted / voidwoken turtles, and most likely the kraken as well.

I think it is best if someone from Larian answers the question rather than random speculation from random people.
