Hi all,
Just started playing last WE and I had a real blast! Great game! I love in particular the freedom offered with the multiple ways to do things!
Then I went to the forums and I read the exploit to pickpocket, replacing an item in the npc inventory by a gold piece.
I thought it was too dam idiot to still be working, but I tried, and it worked ...
So in short, steal all, sell back all "stolen item", so they won't be in your inventory, and once the NPC has no more gold pieces, buy the items you really need, so they won't have a "stolen" tag, and then repeat since the NPC is full of gold piece again ...
I ruined the game for me...
I may sound like an idiot, but I hope the dev will nerf that for launch because it means that you can have very quickly in the game the best epic items available from sellers (it is extremely easy to reach the undead seller and not that difficult for Garteh). On the contrary, it is pretty difficult not to use that exploit, once you know how it works (human nature beeing weak and all that ...)
What are your view on this?

I guess I don't understand the exploit. With pickpocket you can only pickpocket an npc one time per game, is my understanding. How would replacing an item with a gold piece bypass the only once pickpocket mechanic?

try it you'll see.
It seems that if you take a gold piece from your inventory and use it to swap an item in the npc inventory it is not recognized as a pickpocket by the game
So you can steal that npc clean.

Ill try it when I get home. As for cheating, well you can just download cheat engine and basically make yourself a millionaire, or a god. The game is what you make of it. If you have fun cheating, then by all means cheat. It does not affect my fun if you play differently than me. If you can't keep yourself from cheating... well I am not sure what to say about that. One thing I have realized about cheating for myself is: once i cheat it is no longer fun, because what I accomplished was not my effort, skill, perseverance, or insight, it was because I cheated. It isn't very gratifying.
You can also change the loot from chests as well. There are many things you can do to make the game easier, but it becomes less fun. I also had to start roleplaying a bit to increase my enjoyment because my roleplaying it forced me to play the game as it is, and not the way I wanted it to be if that makes any sense.

Changing the difficulty of the game is one thing, but it is part of the setting of the game.
Downloading a cheat engine, to have endless gold or health, max level, ... if it pleases some people, it is their problem, but if the devs allow modding, it is part of the setting of the game.
But I believe here that this is a bad coding or a bug => not intended by the dev. As such it should be corrected because it is something which is not working according to the decided, agreed, mechanics of the game.
How do you change the loot of a chest (except by reloading before opening)?

I agree when said it is a bug, however I hardly think this is game breaking (ruining) bug. If you don't like it don't do it. You know it's there, don't exploit it.
If you do it's pretty much like accepting you are using a cheat to increase your gold.

I think this is a key point and addresses a lot of demands for changes which leave me feeling quite baffled. Personally I'm not a particularly skilled gamer, I like exploring but to be honest I really suck at tactics and combat. I know there's cheats that would give me an unearned advantage but I seldom use them, especially if I think they would ruin the experience. It doesn't even occur to me to say they should be coded out of the game.

Most people are playing single player. These types of exploits are not an issue. Just dont do it. You can just easily install a cheat mod or use the console commands to cheat. This is no different. Obviously, it was unintended.

I personally don't care. As long as I can still pick pocket, I don't care what they do with this bug. Fix it or not, cause I don't plan to exploit it.
GMAddon1: Adds almost every single monster and NPC from the main campaign into GM mode, plus a few large custom maps to use in GM mode.

Agreed, just don't use it. I even consider having Thievery (per points or items) on more than one character as inappropiate. So I use only one char to pickpocket. If only all problems could be solved so easily.

Aside from this bug, multi amounts of pocket picking would not be considered cheat. The devs put the trader their so it's gear assessable for the beginner.
When it becomes cheating when cheat engine is involved. But then still it's a single player game the player might find it to hard, to slow to time consuming or just want do something weird. Who knows what cheaters motivated it do not matter in the end.

Might be intended to be that way, since you are replacing the items stolen the trader might not realize something is missing (let's say they have everything in their pockets and if you replace an item their pockets still feel full).
