I would not put too much energy in thinking over the starting classes. The names are sometimes strange. A "Cleric" using Necromancy? A "Knight" as two-handed damage dealer instead of the "Fighter"? What has Restoration and Hydrosophist to do with Enchanting?

Skip it. The names are not important and there are no classes. More important are the stats and most important in my opinion are the talents, as you get only few talent points. You can change any stat for your main character. The only problem is to communicate this to new players.

More of a problem are the companions. All depends on what you can change in the announced respecc possibility after Act 1. It is annoying that there is not clear info from Larian about it. If you could not change talents for companions, it would heavily influence my choice of starting "classes" for companions. I would never take "Ranger" for a ranger for example.
