Is it possible to add prerequisites to crafting, disabling it for characters that do not meet certain requirements? Essentially I would want my players to be unable to craft certain items unless their character knew the recipe, but I am not sure if discrete recipes are set up in this manner as part of the newest crafting system. Tying some crafting to a particular tag would be ideal, as well.

Conceptually I want to use this feature in the GM mode to allow all characters to craft "basic" recipes like a stone axe or a lockpick, but only allow characters who are tagged as blacksmiths, carpenters, fletchers, etc. to access certain crafting recipes--like a fine steel sword, for example. I plan on overall modding the game files minimally in order to make some cosmetic changes to the tag system and to the ability names, mostly, to shift my campaign to a more realistic setting.

Forgive me if this question has already been asked and answered, or if I am not privy to aspects of how the new crafting system works. I have only a small amount of modding experience, but am not requesting someone else create this mod for me. I was just hoping to see if anyone more familiar with the system would think this change possible. Thanks!

It was possible to add ability requirements to crafting in D:OS EE, so it should still be possible. Not sure about requiring a specific tag or even a talent or something like that.. It's possible to script a kind of crafting, which could definitely require tags, though obviously that's much more complicated than just using the existing crafting UI.

Thank you so much for your reply! I hope the editor will allow for an easy solution. I am not as familiar with scripting, but if it's a matter of changing values in the editor or something like creating new skill entries I don't think it will be a problem. I plan to change many of the ability names, if possible, so I am sure that I can find a thematic ability to which to tie the crafting recipes.
