Apologies if this thread has been made but having looked through different threads and posts I can't seem to find any threads that talk specifically about classes people have tried out in the Alpha and what they'd recommend and what they would not. I've played about ten or so hours with a group of four and have currently been playing the Wizard and while I've been enjoying it somewhat my spells are sometimes impossible to use because I know I'm just going to hit my allies as well and screw them over entirely. Especially with how much environment effects in this game.

We'll be re-rolling when the official game releases on the 14th, I'm considering potentially a Ranger, Wayfarer or Enchanter this time around. Does anyone have any opinions or experiences with any of those classes? I've heard hybrid classes are suffering a little bit so far, is that true?

I'd love for this thread to be a place where people can not only say what classes they've liked/not liked but also ask questions about other classes people might be able to answer for them!

mages/wizards are very powerful with their aoe effects.. and there are ways around it as melee (multiple abilities that essentially make you immune)

but with careful use of the aoe you can hit a bunch of enemies at once killing them all. that said however ranger and rogue styles in this game are insanely strong and will no doubt do way more damage than a wizard/mage can.. single target mostly though.

I plan on being a summoner for my main character building tanky stats and summoning and using necromancy to heal. But its not the most effective strategy.. but it will be fun for me.

Classes are pointless, you chose the class for the kind of starter weapon, you want to have and change the skills as you want them to be.

Regarding the armor system, you probably should go either full physical or full magical team, because a classical mixed team gets screwed, for example: warrior, rogue, archer & sup-mage.

It's hard to give you a quality advice right now because they have changed so many things from EA.

For example what Kalrakh suggested is something which Larian wants to prevent or nerf a little bit.
They suggest to go with a mixed group because they made it so that in pretty much every encounter there are enemies with high physical armor but very low magical armor and vice versa.
However I have my doubts if this is enough to make mixed groups stronger than pure physical/magical groups.

I think the most important thing for a strong group are synergies, especially if you play mages, as there strength mainly comes from their combos.
However there are a few combos for physical char's as well one of the best combo in game was for example DecayingTouch with FirstAid.

I really hope they made that decaying touch only damage for 100% instead of 175%.

I disagree with mixed group, however, I know many players have stated this but I have a lot more fun with a mixed party and it's very efficient.
When an enemy warrior with a 2handed aproaches, my casters will take care of him because he has very low magic armor. In the mean time my Physical classes will hunt the ones with low Armor.

But yeah in EA many players would say, just focus your group on one type of damage.

I would say, if you take a mixed group, there should be more than one damage dealer for each damage.

In the EA I tried a lot but in the end played a purely physical group, cleric, two-handed warrior, rogue and summoner/ranger. To a big degree that's because I like the according classes and never liked elemental magic that much in games. I'm also not a friend of the surfaces. And with the new visual death mechanic I'm even more dediced than ever to stay with honest physical damage. It's barbaric to burn, poison or freeze people when you can just disembowel them. think

Tha said, it's quite often not possible or advisable to focus fire one foe with all of your party members. In such situations mixed groups shine if they can go two on one against the lesser armor each.

I found it rather frustrating playing a Wizard right now, most of what I'll do just messes up the team because so many of my abilities have some kind of AEO and the environmental effects are everywhere and can completely mess up your party beyond belief by complete accident. There's been so many times where I can't do anything because of the environment getting in the way and potentially messing up allies. I will say if you can get on higher ground the damage buff is amazing but it just feels more frustrating so I have to agree with you geala on that front. I may go Wayfarer and use only healing magic to help with helping the team.

So far our Rouge has easily been the best at dealing out massive damage to a single target and definitely recommend. Though it might be different by the time of full release.
